Marieke Knol woont en werkt op Bonaire en is daar samen met Mimoun Himmit oprichter van Hòfi Kultural. Ze droeg als kunst- en cultuurwetenschapper jarenlang zorg voor de fondsenwerving en het beleid van Fundashon Plataforma Kultural. Sinds enkele jaren legt zij zich meer toe op haar werk als maker, door te schrijven, schilderen, muziek te maken en te dichten. Veel plezier bij het bekijken en lezen van haar blog, kunstwerken en sprookjes.

Vorige week heb ik examen gedaan voor de opleiding tot ‘professional met ervaringsdeskundigheid in de zorg en dienstverlening’ van de hogeschool Windesheim uit Zwolle. De opleiding vond plaats op Curaçao bij Hòfi Korsou. Wat een genot om weer nieuwe dingen te leren, samen met een fantastische groep en inspirerende docenten. We zijn de eerste lichting in het Caribisch gebied en ik ben trots om daar deel vanuit te mogen maken.

Last week I participated in a wellness recovery action plan (WRAP) course. A fantastic method that is used worldwide to put together a personal toolbox, in which you can collect tools to feel good. Taking action when you feel less well, and knowing what you can do, gives a sense of control and peace. Asking myself 'What do I need today' is my new morning ritual.
Meet Fluffie
Fluffie has been living in our garden for nineteen months now. She arrived one day out of the blue and never left. She is best buddies with our dog, together they regularly chill. Apparently she feels safe with us and likes to stay.
Valuable Coral Reefs
It's stormy weather on Bonaire, a beautiful moment of reflection and reflecting on the power of nature. Recently I was at a presentation of WWF on Bonaire. How wonderful that they are getting more active here. Their mission for the coming years is the protection of the coral reefs. Very important for the entire ecosystem and life in the Caribbean. The sea and the coral are also very inspiring for artists and also for my work.
Saying goodbye does not exist
Especially on an island like Bonaire, moving overseas is a drastic operation. In the years that I have lived here, I have experienced very often, that we were able to welcome people and had to wave them goodbye again. Farewell is part of it, if you live here.
