Cultural Consciousness

The Dutch Professor Barend van Heusden proclaims that art is the ability to reflect on ourselves and the world around us. That shapes our self-image and our cultural consciousness.

For Bonaire, just like everywhere else in the world, this is a very important fact. Only the world around us is very different than in the Netherlands. The history of Bonaire is very specific and has therefor partly determined how art is viewed by the people of Bonaire. How exactly that cultural awareness can be defined on Bonaire would be very interesting to investigate.
